Mission : The mission of Construction Engineering and Management program at the Civil Engineering Department of METU is the creation and dissemination of knowledge to enhance productivity, safety, quality and competitiveness in the construction industry via three kinds of activities; educating professionals and future industry leaders to help implement the best engineering and management practice in the construction industry, interacting with industry to enhance program effectiveness, and conducting research to develop advanced technologies and management approaches. To ensure the multi-disciplinary character of this program, students are encouraged to take relevant courses from operations research, management, architecture and industrial engineering fields. Within this context, students learn how to plan projects, estimate and control costs, analyse economic decisions, administer contracts, organize construction sites, manage construction process, increase productivity, optimize site activities and solve legal problems. One of the objectives of Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) Division is to create a strategic database by gathering information about Turkish construction industry using questionnaires and then to obtain an information sharing media within the industry via METU. CEM Division offers public organisations a variety of project management and strategic management services ranging from feasibility analysis of investment projects to consultancy and controlling services during construction. Similarly, CEM Division offers management consultancy services to construction companies in private sector including demand projections, selection of appropriate construction techniques, scheduling and contract administration. Moreover, CEM Division give regular seminars in METU Continuing Education Center (CEC). Also, faculty members of the CEM Division act as expert witnesses in Turkish courts and arbitral tribunals. |
